Here in Thuringia, not far from the Christmas station Sitzendorf, the first Christmas baubles made of glass were conceived in the middle of the 19th century. A glassblower from Lauscha invented treats made of colored glass for his children as ornaments for the Christmas tree. He could not afford real fruit. The idea quickly found imitators and the Thuringian Forest became the heart of the tree ornament craft.

After baubles, nuts and apples came from the workshops of glassblowers lovingly designed Christmas tree tops and Christmas figures. According to the taste of the time, they were mouth-blown and lavishly decorated. They were elaborately painted and decorated with all kinds of ornaments. The Thuringian Christmas tree decorations became world famous. It even made it to the Christmas tree of England's Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle.
