Christmas decorations from the Thuringian Forest: Incredibly beautiful and absolutely unique!
A long time ago there was a small town in the Thuringian Forest where people made a living from their handicrafts. There in Lauscha everyone had a special talent and everyone was proud of what they could create. But the glassblowers who received the most recognition were the ones who made beautiful hand-blown glass Christmas figures. They worked hard and every year new creations and imaginative glass figures appeared in the shops. Everything was hand-blown and hand-decorated. Lauscha's Christmas tree decorations, especially the Christmas balls and Christmas figures, soon became world famous. At Christmas time, everyone soon wanted to hang one of these figures or glass animals on the Christmas tree.
In keeping with this tradition, we still make fascinating Christmas tree decorations in our glassblowing workshop in the beautiful Schwarzatal, just 22 kilometers from Lauscha. We have been producing glass art for three generations now. Our creations include many traditional, nostalgic Christmas figures. But because time doesn't stand still, you can also hang modern Christmas tree figures such as terriers, cats or convertibles on your Christmas tree as Christmas decorations in our online shop or at the factory outlet.
Meticulous and loving: This is how a glass Christmas figure is created
The gas burner is the centerpiece of the glassblower's workstation. Here, a small glass tube is heated to 800 degrees Celsius. The glowing glass takes on an orange color and becomes as soft as honey. An experienced glassblower then forms the blank of the thin-walled Christmas figure by carefully blowing and turning it. Forming pliers ensure the perfect shape with all the desired details. At the Sitzendorf Christmas station, we produce tree decorations, some of which have very old shapes. We draw on the rich family heritage of three generations of glassblowing.
Real silver for the magnificent shine on the Christmas tree
The resulting glass figure is still transparent up to this point. Unlike wooden figures, however, we can refine the glass Christmas tree decorations so that they shine and glitter. To do this, the figure is mirrored on the inside with real silver - just like a Christmas bauble. The Christmas figure is given the finishing touch by painting it or decorating it with ice varnish. The painting is mostly done by hand. For example , Puss in Boots with his many colorful details would not be possible in any other way.
